The main difference between the two is how the box is built.  A framed cabinet has an overlaying framed structure in the front that provides additional support to the box. Frameless cabinets are constructed so that the door attaches directly to the side wall of the cabinet. See how they compare otherwise:

Framed vs Frameless Cabinets:

FRAMED

  • more common, American style
  • traditional look
  • easier installation and door/drawer adjustment
  • Requires separate skin panels on exposed sides
  • more options in sizes and modifications
  • clearance is met for drawer/door openings

FRAMELESS

  • growing in popularity, European style
  • Sleeker, modern look; minimal appearance
  • larger box capacity and full access interior
  • Sides are factory finished
  • more fillers required to assure minimum

Frameless vs framed kitchen cabinets- On average, framed cabinets usually cost a little bit less than frameless.  It basically comes down to aesthetic and functionality.  Our opinion is you can’t go wrong either way.
